On arrival in Lafayette we are met by our step-on-guide. We will visit St. John Cathedral and view The Magnificient 500-year-old Oak. Our next visit will be to tour The Alexandre Mouton Home. This charming home was the turn of the century home of Louisiana’s first democratic governor. You will view, also a “Mardi Gras” room containing elegant breath-taking costumes of past kings and queens of Lafayette’s Mardi Gras. Departing the Mouton Home our next stop is Martin’s Accordion. Here you will learn history of the accordion, the making of the accordion and accordion music performance by the family. After our visit here we board our motorcoach and transfer to our hotel where we check in for the next two nights. After checking in we have time to freshen up before we depart for a Fais Do-Do at a favorite local restaurant featuring delicious Cajun food, live Cajun music and dancing – (a local couple will join the group to demonstrate Cajun dancing and dance with persons in the group interested in learning Cajun dance steps). Following dinner and dancing we return to our hotel for the evening.(D) DAY 2 – MONDAY, MARCH 7 – LAFAYETTE – This morning we enjoy breakfast before being joined again by our step-on-guide this morning as we depart for an Atchafalaya Swamp Tour. The boat will ride under the I-10 swamp expressway, which took 10 years to build and is an engineering feat. You will enjoy swamp vegetation and wildlife. Most of the time on this tour you will see alligators. After our swamp tour we will enjoy lunch and a tour at Crawfish Town USA. We will see a one of a kind seafood washing machine which results in clean, tasty crawfish. You will learn a unique approach to the boiling process. You will also tour a working crawfish pond. After lunch and tour we depart for a visit to the Jean Lafitte Cultural Center where we view a video that tells the story of the expulsion of the Acadians from Acadie. Our next visit is to Vermilionville an area that brings to life the early settlement from 1765-1890. We return to the hotel with time to freshen up before departing for dinner and entertainment at the Petroleum Club of Lafayette. This evening there will be the crowning of the King and Queen of the “Krewe of America by Rail”, the the Children’s Krewe Presentation with beautiful Mardi Gras costumes. We return to the hotel following our visit here.(B)(L)(D) DAY 3 – TUESDAY, MARCH 8 – LAFAYETTE – HOME – Following our breakfast we check out of our hotel and board our motorcoach. OUR POLICE ESCORT LEADS US DOWNTOWN FOR THE MARDI GRAS PARADE. We have special bus parking and a special place to watch the parade to catch beads, doubloons, and other trinkets that are thrown from the floats. After the parade we will begin our departure from Cajun Country and head toward home.
